SHCA Presents Awards at 2005 Conference |
Chicago, (April 1, 2005) -- The Society for Healthcare Consumer Advocacy (SHCA) recently presented its three highest awards at its 2005 Annual Conference & Exhibition in Chicago, Illinois. The Ruth Ravich Founders’ Award, National Healthcare Consumer Advocacy Award (Group); and National Healthcare Consumer Advocacy Award (Individual), sponsored by rL Solutions, were presented during the Annual Business Luncheon, April 1, 2005. On-hand for the special award presentations was rL Solutions President and CEO Sanjay Malaviya, along with 2005 SHCA Board Member Ruth Sullivan.
The Ruth Ravich Founders’ Award was presented to Carol Santalucia, Ombudsman, Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio. The Ruth Ravich Founders’ Award recognizes an individual whose work supports SHCA’s vision to bring the patients' needs to the center of healthcare.
“Carol Santalucia constantly serves as a patient advocate mentor for hospital staff, SHCA members, and the community at large,” said long-time colleague and friend, Anita Woodward, and past recipient of the Ruth Ravich Founders’ Award. “I can not think of anyone I know more deserving of this award and honor.”
The National Healthcare Consumer Advocacy Award (Group) was presented to The Studer Group, Quint Studer, Founder, Lynne Cunningham, Coach and Zani Weber, Coach, for the amazing work they provide healthcare institutions by helping improve the quality of service given to patients. The award honors both a group and an individual who have made significant impacts on the quality of care for the healthcare consumer.
“The Studer Group is an amazing team to watch,” said SHCA President Irene Zbiczak, Patient Relations Manager, Mills-Peninsula Health Services, Burlingame, CA. “Through their successful work with hospitals, they exemplify excellence by helping organizations create internal service improvement plans to function more efficiently and, ultimately, function better to serve the patients better.”
The National Healthcare Consumer Advocacy Award (Individual) was presented to Susan Horton, Director of Health Directions, Lexington Medical Center, West Columbia, South Carolina.
“Throughout our facility and the community, Susan’s passion and vision have helped many,” said Kristi Strange, Guest Services, Lexington Medical Center. “Susan’s achievements have a certain hallmark: involvement, empowerment, creativity, fun, high quality and service. She can move a vision into reality, and create teamwork and energy along the way.”
